2015 MEDICAL MISSION TO LORETO AND TUBAJON

Once again, a medical mission is being organized by LUSCAN. The medical mission team will be composed of volunteer doctors, nurses, medical/dental/pharmaceutical support personnel, and volunteer LUSCAN officers and members will undertake the project in July of 2015. New Look of the Luscan Library building in Loreto, Dinagat Island, Philippines

Due to the super-typhoon “Yolanda” or “Haiyan” that badly hit the city of Tacloban and other outlying towns and islands in several eastern provinces in the Philippines, the Luscan library also experienced structure damage. The roof of the Luscan library was badly damaged.  LUSCAN, in cooperation with the local municipal government, replaced the entire roof and re-painted the exterior.

New Book Donations 2011

New Book Donations from McGraw-Hill Companies The McGraw-Hill Companies again donated brand new books (270 volumes) for Loreto and Tubajon libraries. These books were trans-shipped from Whittier to Loreto last December, 2011. Through the efforts of Prospero Galido, LUSCAN has received several volumes of brand new books for LUSCAN’s Loreto library. Loreto Central Elementary School (LCES) Playground Upgrade

The construction of children’s playground equipment for the Loreto Central Elementary School’s playground improvement, donated by LUSCAN, was completed and inaugurated on March 11, 2010 during its 75th LCES Elementary Day Celebration . This project was started in September 2009. Mr. Abraham Quijano, a LUSCAN member, and Vice_Mayor Dario Perlismino graced the opening and dedication ceremony.

Luscan Library Signage

The Luscan Library acquired new signage in the Summer of 2010. This project was funded by LUSCAN in the amount of Php25,000 or USD 555.00. At the Toronto LUSCAN reunion, the signage project was approved by the general membership.

Desktop Computer and Printer for LUSCAN Library

The LUSCAN library in Loreto, Dinagat Island, Philippines has purchased and installed a HP desktop computer, with a color printer donated by Prospero Galido. The computerization of McGrawHill donated books will enable the library comply with McGrawHill inventory requirement; improve library record system; maintain a communication channel between LUSCAN and library administration, and create flyers and annoucement of book arrivals …

Loreto Library Building Expansion Project

LUSCAN’S Loreto library was expanded in cooperation with the local government. The project was completed in mid-2011. This project was made possible through the generous support of LUSCAN members, and charitable donors from the U.S.A. The expansion added a room for small children.

Tubajon Library New Building Project

Tubajon is a municipality in the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. As of the 2007 census, it had a population of 7,815. This municipality does not have a library. LUSCAN is planning to build a library building for the municipality of Tubajon. School children from grade school and high school will greatly benefit to enhance their educational needs. The …

Medical Mission – Fruitful Harvest – 2001

Fruitful Harvest Medical Mission 2001 with coordinated volunteering efforts by LUSCAN members. There were 45 health professionals, clergy, and lay volunteers from Connecticut, Ohio, Texas, and Missouri who went to Loreto, Province of Dinagat Islands, Philippines. One hundred four (104) surgeries ranging from skin cysts to goiters, harelips, and C-sections were performed. The major procedures were done in Surigao City …
