Loreto Library

History

The LUSCAN Library (hereafter referred to as "the library established by the Loretenos in the U.S.A. and Canada"), was originally named the Loreto Library and Information Center. Donated to the people of Loreto and Tubajon by LUSCAN, this library currently functions as a public library in the municipalities of Loreto and Tubajon.

The LUSCAN Library is the first one ever established in the municipalities of Loreto and Tubajon. It is also the only public library currently operating in the province of Dinagat Islands.

In 1997, the new library building located at the Loreto’s civic center was inaugurated. The Loretenos in the U.S.A and Canada appropriated the library building and was built with the help of the municipal government at that time. It has operated there until now.

The LUSCAN Library serves the student population and general public in the town of Loreto and its barangays (barrios). It has been so successful that 90 per cent of the high school student population use the library from the books & magazines donated by the members of LUSCAN and books from the Philippine National Library.

During school season, this library space is overfilled with students. Frequently, students continue to use this facility during evenings.

Library Hours: Mon – Fri 8:00 ~ 12:00 a.m.,1:00 ~ 5:00 p.m. The library also opens on weekends from 7:00 pm till 10:00 pm.
